DVHL Update - October 17, 2013

Well, I'm off to a terrible start when it comes to giving weekly updates of DVHL scores. This post should bring us up to date on the season so far. After the jump: a summary of DVHL action through October 13.

Meanwhile, I've been pretty active on the HBB Facebook page, sharing photos, scores, and game summaries from the DVHL. You may recall that I posted a blog about the social media presence of the DVHL and AYHL teams. Some of them are very good about posting updates, which is fantastic. Hats off to Palmyra, Lehigh Valley, Regency, Old York Road, Ed Snider Hockey, and others - but especially the Delaware Stars (I love their game summaries!) and Warwick Wildcats (tweeting in-game updates for many teams!). I'll keep sharing your updates as long as you keep posting them!

Don't forget to "Like" us on Facebook for on-the-fly scores and updates.

443 games have been played in the DVHL through October 13th. That's roughly 15% of the season. Here's where we stand in the early going.

Squirt AA:

It's a story of the "haves" and "have-nots" in the Squirt AA division. At the top end of the division, there are 5 undefeated teams remaining: the Ice Dogs and Delaware Ducks leading the way with 6 points each, and the Delco Phantoms, Haverford Hawks, and Exton Kings with 4 points each. At the other end, the Quakers, Wissahickon, VF Colonials, Jr. Pens, and Warwick Wildcats are each still looking for their first victories. The Ducks and Hawks had big weekends with two wins each. Cap City and Lehigh Valley picked up their first league wins of the season on Saturday.

Squirt A:

In 3 games, the undefeated Delco Phantoms have scored 13 goals and allowed only 1. That adds up to 6 points and the division lead. Snider hockey (also undefeated) and the Blazers are right on the Phantoms' heels with 5 points. Cap City and Lancaster are the other undefeated teams in the Squirt A division. Lehigh Valley, the Ice Dogs, Wissahickon, Haverford, and the Delaware Ducks are each looking for their first win in limited league action.

Squirt B:

In the crowded Squirt B division, Warwick White leads the way with a 3-0-0 record and 6 points. But don't get too comfortable, Warwick White - there are 6 other teams within 2 points of first place. Snider Hockey Orange, Palmyra, and Lancaster (plus a few other teams that have only played 1 game each) also remain undefeated. Lancaster is scoring at a torrid pace, with 17 goals in only 2 games. Palmyra leads the way in keeping the puck out of the net, allowing only 1 goal in 2 games played to date.

Peewee AA:

Look out for the Hershey Jr. Bears (6-0-0) and the Delco Phantoms (3-0-0). Those are your two undefeated teams in the Peewee AA division. Delco is netting nearly 8 goals per game (7.67) while allowing only 2 - good enough for 1st and 2nd place in goals for and goals against respectively. Warwick, in third place with 7 points, is giving up a stingy 1.40 goals against per game. That's 7 goals against in 5 games, best in the division. At the other end of the standings, Wissahickon, York, and Grundy are still looking for those elusive first victories. The Valley Forge Colonials picked up their first league victory on Saturday.

Peewee A:

In early season action, four undefeated teams have risen to the top of the standings: Snider Hockey, Delco Phantoms, Delaware Jr. Blue Hens, and the Blazers lead the way in the division. Delco has scored nearly 9 goals per game (61 goals in 7 games), best in the division. In goals against, the top spot goes to Palmyra yielding only 4 goals in 5 games. Look out for those Black Knights - their 7.00 goals per game pace is good enough for second and they've only lost once in 5 games (1 score is unreported as of this typing). Cap City and the VF Colonials are battling for those first wins.

Peewee B:

There are 5 undefeated teams in the Peewee B division, but none of them leads in points. That distinction goes to the Blazers with 9 points. Palmyra is fast on their heels with 8 points. But the Kings and Ice Dogs have each played fewer games than the division leaders, and with identical 3-0-1 records, are not to be taken lightly. The Kings lead the way in scoring with 8.50 goals per game. The Ice Dogs lead in goals against, allowing a stingy 4 goals in 4 games. Each team that has played at least one game has at least one point. York will kick off its league schedule this weekend - but it's a tough draw as they'll face the Ice Dogs. Better plan on playing a tight defensive game - or hope the Ice Dogs' goalies cool off.

Bantam AA:

The Quakers are the team to beat in the Bantam AA division. Off to a 5-0-0 start, they lead the division in points, goals for (4.50 per game), and goals against (1.83 per game). Impressed? Well don't tell that to the Grundy Senators, the only other undefeated team in the division at 2-0-1. Grundy is a very close second in goals for (4.33 per game) and goals against (2.00). At the other end of the division, the VF Colonials are still looking for their first league win. The Colonials have allowed over 4 goals per game while struggling to put pucks in the net (2 goals for in 4 games played).

Bantam A:

Palmyra (7-1-0), Cap City (6-0-0), and the Jr. Pens (5-0-1) are off to hot starts in the Bantam A division. Cap City is undefeated and leads the division in scoring at 8.00 goals per game. But how about the Quakers 1 team? Zero - as in 0 - goals allowed in 3 games played. Their goalies have been perfect though barely tested, making only 13 saves in 3 games combined! To top it off, the Quakers 1 are second in the division in scoring at 7.33 goals per game. The Quakers 2 team is not faring as well. They join the Haverford Hawks as the only teams still looking for a point in the division.

Bantam B:

Palmyra (7-0-0), the Jr. Pens (5-0-2), and Delaware Ducks (5-0-0) lead the division and are joined by Lancaster (4-0-0) as the only undefeated teams in Bantam B. The Ducks have scored an incredible 50 goals in 5 games, leading the division in scoring. And their 1.60 goals against per game is good enough for second in the division. Lancaster is a team to watch, ranking second in goals for (8.00) and first in goals against (0.50) through 4 games. But the story of this division? The top 8 teams in the Bantam B division have 33 wins among them in 47 games played. The bottom 10 teams have 6 wins combined in 39 games.

Midget 16 AA:

The Ice Dogs White (4-2-0) leads the way so far with 8 points. But this is a tight division with 6 undefeated teams. Quakers 1 (3-0-0) is in second with 6 points. Grundy (2-0-0) leads the division in scoring with 14 goals in 2 games. Lancaster (2-0-0) is next, averaging 6.00 goals per game, and along with Lehigh Valley (1-0-1) leads in goals against at 1.00 per game. Exton, Warwick, and Valley Forge are each looking for their first league win.

Midget 16 A:

Can you say Grundy Red? 5-0-0, leading the division in goals for (7.80 per game) and goals against (1.00 per game). They haven't scored fewer than 6 or given up more than 2 goals in any of their 5 games. Snider Hockey White (4-1-1) is knocking on the door with 9 points. There are 3 other undefeated teams (Lehigh Valley Flames White, Ice Dogs White, and Lancaster) ready to challenge as well. Welcome York to the action as they kick off their league play this coming weekend.

Midget 18 AA:

At 4-0-2, the Delaware Ducks are off to a hot start, 6 points ahead of the second place Ice Dogs. The Ducks rank second in goals against (1.50 per game) and fourth in goals for (3.50 per game). They've also played the most games in the division so we'll see how things play out as other teams catch up in GP. Delco is off to a rough 0-4-0 start, the only team without a point so far.

Midget 18 A:

The Quakers (4-0-0) and Chester County Cougars (3-0-0) are your undefeated teams, with the Ice Dogs (3-1-0) and Jr. Pens (3-1-0) right in the mix in terms of points. It's the Ice Dogs leading the way in goals for at 6.00 per game. The Ice Dogs are third in goals against (1.50 per game), just behind the Quakers and Warwick with 1.00 per game. Five teams (out of 14) are still looking for their first wins and first points of the young season.
