Beeski Bits - August 10, 2013

Updates from around the DVHL:

  • Capital City Vipers: Mini-camps are being held this weekend. Check out the schedule here. This looks like a really cool way to kick off the season. How many rinks do something like this?
  • Delaware Jr. Blue Hens: The Jr. Blue Hens are hosting the Summer Splash Down tournament next weekend, August 16-18. I can't find any info on teams or schedules, but the Luau on Saturday at TBD sounds pretty awesome.
  • Delaware Stars: Centre Ice Rink will re-open on August 24th, with "welcome back" skates for Squirts/Peewees on 8/24 and Bantam/Havoc on 8/25. The Stars are also looking for a few Bantam players. Check out their Facebook page here.
  • Ed Snider Hockey: If you don't follow Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation on Facebook or Twitter, you really should. They've been running camps all summer, complete with "camper of the week" awards, plenty of off-ice activities, and guest speakers. Cool stuff.
  • Haverford Hawks: Good showing for the Hawks at the Summer Sizzler tournament at The Pond arena in Delaware. Midget 16AA won the tournament in a shootout, and Squirt AA made it to the final. Check out the details here.
  • Hershey Jr. Bears: The Hershey Jr. Bears are having an equipment swap meet on 8/24 at the Hockey Plus location in Harrisburg. Check out the details here. Essentially, you can drop off your equipment from 8/12-8/22 and if it sells at the swap meet you get 70% of the sale. I guess that's better than having the equipment sit in the garage. Not sure what happens to the equipment that doesn't sell.
  • Lehigh Valley Flames: Lots of news on the Flames' website. They are looking for players to fill a second Midget 16A team. Flames' Bantam A won the Summer Sizzler tournament in DE. And check out this story on how the Flames' 18AA team is helping the hungry. That and more here.
  • Quakers: Rosters are posted for all except the Mite teams. The Quakers are looking for someone to fill the Board Secretary position starting with the 2014-15 season. Find out more on their very colorful website.
  • Valley Forge Colonials: Looks like the Midget 16A team has some openings. Contact Head Coach Scott Cassady at (610) 247-4517 for details. How do you like the Colonials' website? In the photo on the main page, the player closest to the camera is my son - circa 2008. But - I hear that's changing soon...
  • Warwick Wildcats: I have come to learn that the Wildcats are one of the most active teams in the DVHL when it comes to social media. Definitely worth a follow on Twitter and check out their Facebook page too. The Squirt 10U, Peewee 12UA, and Midget 16UA teams are all looking for players for the 2013-14 season. For more information contact alan.plotkin@wildcatsicehockey.com. Finally, in what looks to be a great preview of the battles we'll see this season, the Warwick Summer Blast schedule is posted here. Squirts thru Bantams play next weekend 8/16-18, and Midgets the following week. Wow - might have to go check out some of these games.
